Student Onboarding

To help you start your Master of Health Management journey, please review and abide by the deadlines posted within the checklist.

Checklist

Your offer letter outlined the deposit fee that is payable after you accept your offer. This is payable directly within your Mosaic Student Center as of June 1 (3 months prior to your program start) and will be applied towards your tuition fees. You will use your MacID and password you would have initiated during the Accepted My Offer stage when signing into Mosaic.

Navigate to your financial section where you will see this amount owing. To make payment, follow instructions posted on the Payment Methods section of Fees and Payments.

For more information on tuition fees, please visit the Tuition & Finance webpage and the Tuition & Fees Deadlines webpage.

The School of Graduate Studies will move applicants to a student status within the McMaster systems late June/July to prepare for students to take the next step: Enrolment in their program courses. You will not be able to take this next step until this process has been complete. Students will receive enrollment notices.

There is no action required by students for this step.

Now that you have been matriculated (moved from applicant to student status), you will receive instructions during the summer advising you when enrollment opens, how to enrol, and how to pay for the fall term all using McMaster’s Mosaic platform.  Your first term payment is due mid-September (Tuition & Fees Deadlines).

What is Mosaic?
Mosaic is McMaster’s primary administrative student information system. In the Student Center, you can enroll in classes, submit service requests, access grades, view and print tax forms and more!

You are expected to enrol in Year 1 courses as posted within the Course Sequence chart as well as the School of Graduate Studies two mandatory training courses: SGS 101/ Academic Research Integrity and Ethics and SGS 201/Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities. MHM students must enroll in one course per term for the full academic year, no later than the on-time registration deadline as posted within the Graduate Calendar Sessional dates. Failure to enroll by this date may risk your status in the program. The Mosaic Course catalog and the how to enrol instructions will provide assistance to you in your enrolment process.

Below are helpful links to review and bookmark:

Your student ID card displays your student number, name, photo and is the “key” to a variety of McMaster services while on or off campus.  You will need to upload a passport-like photo which meets the photo requirements by the deadline. Cards will then be distributed at the registration desk during the Fall Residency.

New McMaster Students
Upload your photo by August 1st to get your student ID (MacCard). Visit the MacCard website to learn more about all of the essential services you’ll be able to access.

Returning McMaster Students
If you already have the old McMaster Student ID card, you don’t need the new MacCard. Your old ID will still work at all of partner locations. However, the new card system has different photo requirements, and you will need to upload a new picture before you can purchase a replacement for lost or stolen cards. We are encouraging all returning students to upload a photo now, so that you won’t experience any delays in getting a replacement if you need one. Visit McMaster MacCard for the photo upload requirements and to learn more about all the essential services you’ll be able to access.

*Note: Pickup of the new MacCards will be at the Fall Residency registration desk for those that have uploaded photos by the deadline.

What is Avenue to Learn?
Avenue to Learn (A2L or Avenue) is the primary learning, course delivery and assessment platform at McMaster. Each course within MHM has its own Avenue course shell that is accessible via this platform. MHM students will learn more about this platform during the mandatory HM600/Orientation training (More details provided later in your MHM Student Onboarding Checklist). Students’ login using their MacID credentials – the same login used for Mosaic.

Throughout the program, important information, instructions, and updates will be shared with you within the program’s Avenue shell: the MHM Virtual Office.

Students may wish to take a moment to review this shell immediately or wait until they have completed the HM600/Orientation training (More details provided later in this checklist). Should you decide to review it first, please remember that you will be walked through many aspects during the orientation training to help familiarize yourself. Students will also learn how to activate email/push notifications.

For those who have received a conditional offer, you are responsible for ensuring that all required documents are received at the MHM office by September 1, prior to your start in the program. Your Mosaic student records will be flagged (Negative Service Indicator) denoting that you have a conditional offer to clear, this will be removed once conditions are cleared.  Failure to satisfy this deadline may result in your offer of admission being rescinded.

Official Transcripts must:

  • include the degree conferred date.
  • have a current printed date (within the last 12 months).
  • be accompanied by a certified English translation, should the original language not be English.
  • be received by our program office directly from the issuing institution in a sealed envelope or a secure electronic document platform with a current print date.

Institution(s) must forward secure digital transcripts, or send a paper versions, to our program office. Sending elsewhere, may delay receipt or require you to request a new transcript.

The above is a generalized view of condition clearing guidelines, for a more thorough list of guidelines for various situation, please review the Graduate Studies Conditions of Admission website.

  • How do I monitor the receipt of my conditional documents?
You may monitor your post-acceptance checklist and the status of the document(s) listed via the application portal. You will login with the same credentials you used when you started your application with the program.

If you have questions about your offer or clearing conditions, please contact the program office.

McMaster Graduate students are required to enrol and complete these two mandatory courses by the end of the first month of the first term.

Refer to the How to enroll – and complete – SGS 101/201 page which outlines: enrolment, course access and the completion steps for both of these courses. Failure to complete these two courses by the deadline may result in the inability to graduate, register for subsequent terms, or access your Avenue MHM degree required course shells, etc. Once the courses are completed with a successful ‘Complete’ Grade these results will be reversed.

Upon completion of the courses, please be sure to take a screen shot of your final grade and upload this to the MHM Class Virtual Office Assignment folder. This screen shot must capture your name, the grade received and the course code/name.

You will be given access to a mandatory online orientation training (HM600) within the Avenue to Learn platform. This orientation will help prepare you for your Fall course and provide you with experience and a level of confidence in using the platform and tools within that are often used by the program courses.

Within Avenue to Learn, you will find an MHM Class Virtual Office shell. Within this shell you will find the handbook posted. Please read and make note of important policies and resources listed in the MHM Student Handbook.

The residency dates are found posted on our residency webpage and within the MHM Class Virtual Office. Here you will also find general information pertaining to the residencies.

Note: all visa students will require a study permit to attend the residency should it occur in-person.
